December Steel Shipments Up 11.3% from Previous Month
Mar. 11, 2010 - U.S. steel mills shipped 6,035,000 net tons for the month of December 2009, an 11.3% increase from the previous month’s shipments according to the latest report from AISI.
Siemens Replaces LD Converters at CSN
Mar. 11, 2010 - Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional (CSN) has placed an order with Siemens for the replacement of two LD converters at its Volta Redonda location. Turnkey delivery of the converters is planned during the summer of 2011 and at the end of 2012, respectively.
Outokumpu Duplex Pipes Used by Metso for Pilot Paper Machine
Mar. 11, 2010 - Outokumpu has introduced a new comprehensive system of duplex pipes and fittings, called Outokumpu Duralite™ Piping System, to serve customers in a range of applications. Metso chose Duralite pipes in the lean duplex grade LDX 2101® to rebuild a pilot paper machine.
Ruukki Offers Strong, Weather-Resistant Structural Steel
Mar. 11, 2010 - Ruukki is launching Optim 960 QCW structural steel, a new grade that combines high strength and weather resistance. Optim 960 QCW is made using a direct quenching process developed by Ruukki and is suitable for applications such as containers, cranes, and booms.

Mar. 11, 2010 - Cliffs Natural Resources Inc.’s Board of Directors has elected James F. Kirsch as a director. Kirsch also currently serves as Chairman, President, and Chief Executive Officer of Ferro Corp.
Steel Dynamics Declares Cash Dividend, Issues Q1 Guidance
Mar. 10, 2010 - Steel Dynamics’ board has declared a quarterly cash dividend of $0.075 per common share, payable on or about April 12, 2010, to shareholders of record at the close of business on March 31, 2010. The company also issued first quarter 2010 earnings guidance of $0.22 to $0.27 per diluted share.

Mar. 10, 2010 - ArcelorMittal USA was recently selected, for the third consecutive year, as a 2010 Energy Star® Sustained Excellence Award winner for Energy Management, awarded annually by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the U.S. Department of Energy.
California Steel Reports 4th Quarter, Full Year 2009 Results
Mar. 10, 2010 - California Steel reports a net loss of $2.3 million on net sales of $153.6 million for the fourth quarter and a net loss of $13.1 million on net sales of $551.8 million for the full year ended December 31, 2009.

Mar. 10, 2010 - Mechel OAO announces prolongation of credit facilities for its subsidiaries obtained earlier from Gazprombank. According to the amendment agreements, the credit maturity extends from three years to six years.

Tata Steel Reports Production Increases for February
Mar. 9, 2010 - Tata Steel posted February increases in its hot metal (+13.5%), crude steel (+13%), and saleable steel (+0.4%) production compared to the corresponding month last year.
JSW Posts 69% Growth in Crude Steel Production

Outokumpu, Ruukki Affected by Stevedores Strike in Finland
Mar. 9, 2010 - Outokumpu reports that the strike of the Finnish stevedores has started to impact its operations in Röyttä harbor in Tornio. At Ruukki, the strike will initially affect the transportation of steel products for export, which will be evident in longer delivery times.
ThyssenKrupp Nirosta Supplies Stainless Steel for Metro Trains in Hamburg

Essar Group, Denham Capital Announce Purchase-Sale Agreement for Trinity Coal
Mar. 8, 2010 - Essar Group, through its Essar Minerals subsidiary, and Denham Capital recently announced a definitive agreement by which Denham will sell its ownership of Trinity Coal to Essar for US $600 million. The deal is expected to close by the end of March.

Steel Import Permits Decline 7% in February
Mar. 5, 2010 - Steel import permit applications totaled 1,530,000 net tons for the month of February, a 7% decrease from the 1,644,000 permit tons recorded in January according to the latest report from AISI.
Superior Ships Components for EAF Revamp at North Star Bluescope
Mar. 5, 2010 - Superior Machine Co. of S.C., Inc. has completed and shipped the major components for an upcoming revamp of North Star BlueScope Steel, LLC’s electric arc furnace. Superior’s field service crew is in the process of reassembling the tilt platform, bottom shell (hearth), and upper shell onsite.
Commerce Preliminarily Finds Dumping of Magnesia Carbon Brick from China, Mexico
Mar. 5, 2010 - The Department of Commerce announced on March 4 that it preliminarily determined that Chinese and Mexican producers/exporters have sold magnesia carbon brick in the United States between 132.74 and 349.00%, and 54.73% less than normal value, respectively.

Mar. 5, 2010 - Outokumpu announces that the strike of Finnish harbor workers does not have any material impact on its exports or imports. The private part of the Röyttä harbor, which only serves Tornio Works, is expected to operate “almost normally” with the help of subcontractors.

Mar. 4, 2010 - Two plants fitted with Twin Module Block® (TMB) technology from Danieli were started up at the end of 2009 at the Pangang Group in P.R. China: Changcheng Special Steels and Chenghdu Iron & Steels.
TMK IPSCO to Open New Production Facility in Marcellus Shale Region
Mar. 4, 2010 - TMK IPSCO has signed a lease on a building in Brookfield, Ohio, where it will install new equipment to further expand the threading capacity of its ULTRA Premium Connections product line. The facility is expected to begin operations during the second quarter of this year.
