May 23, 2005

AK Steel's Coshocton Works received four awards last week from the Coshocton County Safety Council. The awards were presented by the Ohio Bureau of Workers' Compensation and the Coshocton County Chamber of Commerce, which co-sponsor the Ohio Safety Council program locally.

The awards include:

  • The Group Award for having the lowest incident rate (0.36) in the industrial group.
  • The 100% Award for operating an entire year without a lost-time injury.
  • An Achievement Award for reducing the incident rate by at least 25% (from 0.51 in 2003 to 0.36 in 2004).
  • A Special Award for working 1,351,565 hours (nearly two years) without a lost-time accident.

"Congratulations to our Coshocton Works employees for their tremendous safety achievements, especially for working nearly two years without a lost-time injury," said James L. Wainscott, President and CEO of AK Steel. "Employees at Coshocton Works have demonstrated an outstanding dedication to safety, which is AK Steel's highest priority."

Headquartered in Middletown, AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steel products for automotive, appliance, construction and manufacturing markets, as well as tubular steel products.
