Steel Producers / Bayou Steel Bayou Steel Selects Pittsburgh Logistics to Manage Facility Transportation

Oct. 7, 2004

Pittsburgh Logistics Systems, Inc. (PLS) has been selected by Bayou Steel Corp. to manage outbound transportation for its Leetsdale, Pa., distribution center.

Under terms of the agreement, PLS will administer the transportation program for the Leetsdale facility, including shipment planning, shipment management, dispatch and delivery scheduling.

In making the announcement, Robert J. Dunn, President of PLS, stated, “Bayou Steel represents our first opportunity to apply our third party logistics services to a steel mini-mill. We are extremely excited to be presented with the opportunity to help Bayou Steel reduce costs and improve customer service at its Leetsdale, Pa., distribution center. We are confident that our performance will lead to additional opportunities at other Bayou Steel facilities.”

“Bayou Steel is looking forward to working with PLS to improve the traffic management out of our Leetsdale facility,” stated Chuck Theaux, Senior Vice President of Sales and Customer Service. “The shortage of flatbed carriers can have an adverse affect on customer service, but with PLS’s expertise in the transportation area, we will be able to continue to provide high quality service to our customers.”

Bayou Steel Corp. is a leading producer of light structural and merchant bar steel shapes with manufacturing facilities in LaPlace, La., and Harriman, Tenn. The company also operates three stocking locations along the inland waterway system near Pittsburgh, Chicago, and Tulsa.

Pittsburgh Logistics Systems, Inc. delivers global logistics solutions to the metals, lumber, and building materials industries.
