Steel Producers / CMC/SMI CMC Establishes Branch Office in Belgium

Dec. 6, 2006

Dec. 6, 2006 — Commercial Metals Co. announced that its Commercial Metals Deutschland GmbH subsidiary has established a branch office in Temse, Belgium.

The new office will operate as part of CMC's Marketing & Distribution segment under the name CMC Cometals Europe and will focus on marketing and distributing those industrial raw materials handled by CMC Cometals of Fort Lee, New Jersey.

Eli Skornicki, President of CMC Cometals, said, "After having serviced CMC Cometals for almost 15 years as an agent, we are pleased that Stefaan Maes and Andy Smet will be joining the CMC family of companies and managing the office. This change in structure will enable us to offer even more services to our customers in the ever growing European markets."

"Establishing our own CMC office in Belgium gives us a stronger presence and better CMC identification in our key markets and is in line with the growth strategy of our Marketing & Distribution business," added Hanns Zoellner, President of CMC's Marketing & Distribution segment.

CMC Cometals specializes in worldwide marketing of a broad range of raw materials which service a wide range of industries with products including industrial minerals, ores, metals, ferro alloys, chemicals, special raw materials, as well as equipment.

Headquartered in Irving, Texas, Commercial Metals Co. and its subsidiaries manufacture, recycle and market steel and metal products, related materials and services through a network including steel minimills, steel fabrication and processing plants, construction-related product warehouses, a copper tube mill, metal recycling facilities and marketing and distribution offices in the United States and in strategic overseas markets.
