Steel Producers / Carpenter Technology Carpenter Acquires UltraFine Powder Technology

Mar. 31, 2008
Carpenter Technology Corp. announced that its Carpenter Powdered Products, Inc. subsidiary, has acquired the assets and business of UltraFine Powder Technology Inc., a private company in Woonsocket, R.I.

UltraFine is a leader in the manufacture and sale of fine gas-atomized powders for the metal injection molding (MIM) industry and other specialty markets.

Founded in 1987 by scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and businessmen from the powder metallurgy industry, the company produces spherical, gas-atomized powders of ferrous, nickel, cobalt, and copper alloys. The company can also apply cold work to the gas-atomized particles to produce shape-modified powders.

Carpenter Technology produces and distributes specialty alloys, including stainless steels, titanium alloys and superalloys, and various engineered products. Its Carpenter Powder Products subsidiary features an extensive capacity for spherical gas-atomized metal powders, and supplies a wide range of products for advanced aircraft and medical alloys to stainless and tool steels.
