COLD ROLLING HEADLINES

Process / Cold Rolling Siemens to Modernize Guangxi Liuzhou Cold Rolling Mill

Oct. 1, 2006

Long-product steel producer Guangxi Liuzhou Iron & Steel Group Ltd., China, has contracted Siemens VAI to install and modernize a purchased 5-stand tandem cold-rolling mill, and couple it with a new pickling section.

Guangxi Liuzhou purchased the cold mill in the U.K. and relocated it to the city of Liuzhou in the Guangxi Province as part of its effort to expand the company’s business activities to include hot- and cold-rolled flat products. The new pickling section is being designed and supplied by a Chinese company (WISDRI Engineering and Research Incorporated Ltd.). Siemens VAI will install and modernize the mill section and couple it with a new pickling section to create an endless production facility.

Siemens’ project scope includes engineering, complete renewal of the mill stands (other than housings and cylinders), installation of a Clecim-type scale breaker in the pickling line, and installation of roll-force cylinders on all mill stands. Siemens will also supply a rotary shear and mandrels for the carrousel coiler. Guangxi Liuzhou Iron & Steel will be responsible for the supply of the mill’s entry and exit equipment as well as for all other new equipment for the mill stands.

With the start-up of the revamped line, Guangxi Liuzhou Iron & Steel will be able to produce a total of 1,400,000 tonnes of carbon steel coils per year, which will be sold for use in the construction industry, non-exposed automotive parts and household appliances.

Coupling of the pickling line and tandem cold mill will be the 19th such project for Siemens VAI.
