Industry Suppliers / Concast Concast to Supply Second Steelworks for Icdas Celik

Icdas Celik A.S., Turkey, and Concast, Switzerland, have concluded a contract for the supply of an electric steelworks for the at the company’s Biga location.
 
Concast’s scope of supply comprises engineering plus the supply of plant and equipment for a 220-tonne electric arc furnace, ladle furnace, (optional) vacuum degassing facility, and a high-performance eight-strand continuous caster for 180- x 180-mm billets.
 
The electric arc furnace will be equipped with a 230-MVA transformer and a total of eight Concast CONSO injectors, which will attain a total output of up to 48 MW. Icdas plans to produce 2.2 million tonnes of billets per year with the new caster, which will be equipped with Concast Convex® technology.
 
The new steelworks will be the second for the Biga location. Concast also installed the initial minimill, which went into operation in 2004. Commissioning of the new minimill is scheduled for the third quarter of 2009.
 
SMS GmbH is the holding for a group of companies internationally active in plant construction and mechanical engineering relating to the processing of steel, nonferrous metals and plastics. The group is divided into the Business Areas SMS Demag and SMS Meer under SMS metallurgy and into the Business Area SMS Plastics Technology. In the year 2006 some 9,000 employees worldwide generated a turnover of about EUR 2.8 billion.
