Core Commissions Injection System for Gerdau-Ameristeel EAF
Feb. 27, 2006 Feb. 27, 2006 — Core Furnace Systems Corp. recently commissioned a KT Injection System® for the electric arc furnace at Gerdau-Ameristeel’s Sayreville, N.J., plant.
The complete sidewall KT Injection System for the Consteel® EAF consists of three oxygen/gas injectors, two carbon injectors and one lime injector. Utilizing a patented water/air cooling system, the oxygen/gas injectors each provide a shrouded supersonic oxygen stream into the steel bath through the slag layer. Sidewall placement and the injector positioning provides an efficient and cost-saving system. The KT system also facilitates the addition of lime and carbon into the EAF through specifically designated injectors. The carbon injectors are more cost effective and efficient than the traditional conveyor and/or bucket carbon feed method.
The KT system has allowed Gerdau Ameristeel to significantly reduce specific electric power consumption at the EAF. The installation has also helped the company to improve the foamy slag condition of the EAF, resulting in lower electrode consumption.
Core Furnace Systems is a steel industry leader for the design and supply of meltshop equipment, industrial furnaces, technical service as well as process control and automation systems.
