CORE FURNACE SYSTEMS HEADLINES

Industry Suppliers / Core Furnace Systems CORE to Supply Material Handling System for SeverCorr Meltshop

Sep. 1, 2006

Sep. 1, 2006 — Core Furnace Systems was recently contracted to design and supply a complete material handling system for SeverCorr’s new meltshop in Lowndes County, Miss.

The project comprises an EAF/LMF flux charging system and LMF/VD alloy feed system, a metallics charging and feed system and a carbon injection system for the EAF.

All systems will be designed and optimized to efficiently feed the meltshop process equipment. The material handling systems will include conveyors, storage silos, bins, vibratory feeders, injection vessels and unloading stations.

CORE will also design and supply a complete process control and automation system.

Start-up is anticipated to begin in the late spring of 2007.

CORE is a leader for the design and supply of meltshop material handling systems including other types of meltshop equipment and industrial furnaces. CORE also provides a wide range of technical services as well as automation and control systems.

SeverCorr was formed in 2003 to design, engineer, build and operate a state-of-the-art steel facility to service growing manufacturing opportunities in the Southern U.S. In October of 2005, SeverCorr broke ground on a next-generation steel mill near Columbus, Miss. When complete in 2007, the plant will produce 1.5 million tons per year.
