Danieli to Supply Secondary Metallurgy Station for Nucor-Yamato Steel
Dec. 1, 2006
Dec. 1, 2006 — Nucor-Yamato Steel recently awarded a contract to Danieli for a new 100-ton integrated secondary metallurgy station.
The new integrated vacuum degassing / ladle furnace facility will feature a very compact layout. It will include two vacuum tank cars, two separate vacuum-treatment positions with a single switch, one four-stage vacuum pump with water ring pumps, and a common heating position. Danieli says the new configuration will provide maximized operational flexibility and reduced dependence on the teeming crane.
Danieli will also provide a set of auxiliary equipment (such as automatic sampling and temperature measurement units and argon gas stirring) will be provided for all working positions.
Danieli’s scope of supply also includes all electrics and an advanced Level 2 process control system. The Level 2 system, which features metallurgical calculations, tracking, prediction functions, event data logging/replay functions, and process simulation, will facilitate complete control of the refining process.
Startup of the new plant is scheduled for the end of 2007.
