Industry Suppliers / Danieli Danieli to Upgrade Al Ezz Fume Dedusting Plant

Dec. 1, 2006

Al Ezz Rebars, Sadat City, Egypt, recently awarded a contract to Danieli to upgrade its existing EAF fume dedusting system to bring it into compliance with new Egyptian environmental regulations. The upgrade will specifically address emission limits at the stack, such as dust, CO, SOx and NOx.

The project comprises installation of a new primary suction system, extension of the canopy hood system, and a new filter operating in parallel to the existing one. The new plant will be equipped with a new, larger combustion chamber to accept the dust load in the fume and to ensure the complete combustion of the carbon monoxide associated with the EAF’s improved oxygen injection.

The bigger canopy hood will be designed to control the secondary dust emissions that occur during the charging and tapping phase. The new pulse-jet type filter will help to ensure constant ventilation of the EAF area.

The fume dedusting system will supply a total fume flow-rate (with both filters) of 1,560,000 cubic meters/hour. The two filters provide a total filtering surface of 16,560 square meters.

The Al Ezz Steel Rebars long products minimill, supplied by Danieli in the late 1990s, comprises a steelmaking plant and two bar mills, RM1 and RM2. The steelmaking plant was started up in April 1998 with a nominal capacity of 750,000 tonnes/year, and the bar mills started commercial production in October 1996 (RM1) and September 1998 (RM2). The 95-tonnes AC EAF was upgraded in July 2001 with the installation of three Danieli Modules, to enhance productivity and reduce consumption.

Startup of the upgraded facility is scheduled for autumn of 2007.
