China Steel Restarts Upgraded Billet Mill
Dec. 1, 2006
Dec. 2006 — China Steel Corp., Taiwan, recently restarted the billet mill in Kaohsiung following a major upgrade and modernization carried out by Danieli Morgårdshammar. The upgrade targeted full exploitation of the plant’s capacity, and enhancing plant operation flexibility, efficiency and final product quality.
For the modernization, Danieli Morgårdshammar installed new front and back mechanization systems and quick roll-package changing system for the two-high reversing breakdown mill stand, as well as two new 800-mm diameter SHS super-heavy-duty H-V housingless stands with automatic quick changing system. The existing finishing stand was also revamped with fast changing facilities and a new crank shear for the dividing cut before the cooling bed.
The upgraded plant has a nominal capacity of about two million tonne/year of 118-mm and 145-mm square billets, in low, medium and high carbon, and alloy steels.
