Danieli to Upgrade CMC Structural Mill
Apr. 3, 2006 April 3, 2006 — Danieli Morgårdshammar has been contracted by CMC Steel to supply two new 26-inch vertical breakdown rolling units for modernization of the company’s structural mill in Birmingham, Ala.
The new heavy-duty SHS housingless-type roll stands, which will be installed in place of two old rolling units, will take up to 6-1\4-inch square billets and 10- x 6-inch rectangular blooms. The upgrade will help to enhance plant efficiency and operating conditions and will contribute in minimizing the present maintenance requirements.
Danieli’s scope of supply will include spare rolling units, a set of entry/exit guides, workshop equipment for roll changing and auxiliaries.
CMC’s Birmingham plant has operated Danieli automatic finishing facilities with cooling bed since early 1999, including an in-line straightening/cut-to-length unit and a 90-foot long automatic stacker. The structural mill produces up to 8-inch WF-beams, 4-inch S-beams, 6-inch angles and 8-inch channels and flats. Danieli has also performed minor modifications to the existing finishing mill, including new spindle supports.
