July 2006 — Yieh Phui Enterprise Co. Ltd. recently contracted Danieli Centro Met for the supply of an 800,000 tonne/year specialty steel meltshop to be installed in Taiwan.

The new Yieh Phui meltshop, designed for an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes of billets, will include a two-bay scrapyard, 100-tonne AC FastArc^™ EAF, 100-tonne ladle furnace, and a 100-tonne double-tank Vacuum Degasser. The high-impedance EAF will be equipped with a 110-MVa transformer, conductive arms and Module technology incorporating five oxygen jets and two carbon jets for optimized use of alternative energy. The ladle furnace will feature a tight roof design to reduce air inlet to the ladle, which will help to minimize the electrode side oxidation and consumption, oxidation of liquid steel, and hydrogen/nitrogen pick-up in the treated steel. The vacuum degasser will be equipped with independent temperature and sampling devices, and hydrogen measurement equipment. The degasser will feature a steam-ejection type vacuum pump with a suction capacity of 270-kg/hour at 0.5 torr.

The new meltshop will also feature a 5-strand, 10-meter radius FastCast^™ billet conticaster designed for production of a large variety of steel qualities, such as carbon and low-alloy engineering grades, free-cutting and tire cord steels. The machine will be equipped with hydraulic oscillation, air-mist cooling, and electromagnetic stirring in the mould (M-EMS) and in the strands (F-EMS). The outfit sections are 140- and 150-mm square billets.

Danieli will also supply the material handling system, primary and secondary fume treatment plant with quenching tower system, and all other auxiliary equipment and facilities for the operation of the meltshop.

The whole plant will be equipped with Level 1 and Level 2 automation and process control systems supplied by Danieli Automation, based on Danieli Centro Met know-how in meltshop technology.

Startup of the new steelmaking plant is scheduled for spring 2008.

Yieh Phui Enterprise Co. Ltd., part of the Taiwan-based E-United Group, is a leading producer of stainless steel coils, with several production units in Taiwan and in China. Yieh Phui is also a major producer of galvanized and color-coated cold rolled coils. This contract follows recent orders from E-United Group for a continuous galvanizing line, a hot skinpass mill and a stainless steel slab grinder.
