SSC Phu My Minimill Starts up Danieli Meltshop
Jul. 1, 2006 July 2006 — Southern Steel Corp. recently initiated commissioning of its new 500,000 tonne/year steelmaking plant at the Phu My minimill.
The minimill, installed in Ba Ria (Vung Tau province), was supplied by Danieli on a complete turnkey basis. The facility also includes a 400,000 tonne/year bar and rod mill that started operation in August of last year.
The meltshop includes a 70-tonne full-platform Danarc-Plus EAF, tight-roof design ladle furnace, and a 3-strand FastCast™ high-speed caster. The caster, which will accommodate a future 4th strand, is directly connected to the rolling mill reheating furnace for hot charging operation. Danieli also supplied auxiliary services including fume treatment plant and automation system.
Danieli’s turnkey supply for the minimill included all auxiliary plants, equipment and facilities such as electrical substation, water treatment plant, buildings, civil works, cranes and product handling facilities.
The mill will produce a final product range of 10- to 50-mm diameter plain and deformed bars, 40- to 100-mm angles, corresponding channels and 5.5- to 16-mm diameter wire rod in coils weighing up to 2000 kg.
Danieli Automation supplied the electricals and automation systems for the whole plant.
Danieli says that Southern Steel’s new steelmaking and rolling plant (part of VSC-Vietnam Steel Corp.) is the largest and most advanced steelmaking project ever undertaken in Vietnam in this field.
