Jiangyin XingCheng Special Steel Co Ltd., P.R. China, has awarded Danieli an order for a second and larger SBQ mill.

The plant, characterized by high productivity and efficiency, will consist of a reversing breakdown stand mechanized with front/back work tables and manipulators as well as a continuous finishing mill made up of six stands in H and V arrangement. Fast changing systems will be provided for the breakdown and finishing stands under the ready-to-roll concept. This, together with the dedicated roll-pass design arranged in families will enhance mill’s efficiency and operation flexibility. State-of-the-art finishing facilities include on-line hot saws for net-end cut-to-length of bars for optimal product marketability.

The new mill will be installed beside the initial 500,000 tonne/year SBQ mill recently ordered from Danieli. The project will be followed by DME-Danieli Mechanical Equipment, the recently-formed company located in the Beijing Industrial Zone, which is also in charge for part of the other XingCheng rolling mill under construction.

The new 800,000 tonne/year rolling mill will be one of the largest plants for long products in China. It will be designed for production of 120- to 250-mm diameter SBQ bars and 100- to 180-mm squares for automotive and mechanical manufacturing purposes. Starting material will be 370-x490-mm blooms, weighing 6.2 to 9.4 tonnes in carbon and alloy structural, ball bearing, spring, cold heading and pipe blank grades.

Startup of the new plant is scheduled for spring 2007.
