Danieli to Install Spooler Line at Marienhütte Stahl u Walzwerk
Nov. 1, 2006
Nov. 2006 — Marienhütte Stahl u. Walzwerk, Austria, recently awarded a contract to Danieli for the supply of a new Spooler line. The project is a continuation of Marienhütte’s high-speed bar mill expansion program.
In two previous expansion steps, carried out by Danieli between years 2001 and 2006, Marienhütte’s bar mill was gradually transformed into a modern fully-continuous highly efficient high-speed bar mill, with a 70-tonne/hour rated capacity (when operating in hot charging mode) of 8- to 40-mm diameter bars and rebars.
The patented Danieli Spooler system enables the supply of high-quality ultra-compact heavy weight coils made up of twist-free-wound hot-rolled deformed bars. Featuring cobble-free uncoiling capability, the spooled coils can be used for direct feeding of the downstream cold processing lines, without any intermediate off-line operations such as decoiling, stretching and cold rewinding. The elimination of intermediate processing leads to significant benefits to both coil producers and downstream operators.
The new Spooler line will enable Marienhütte to expand its product range to 8- to 16-mm diameter quenched deformed bars, spooled at speeds of up to 35 meter/second into ultra-compact coils weighing 1.9 tonnes. The expansion will open new market niches to Marienhütte.
Danieli Automation will supply electricals and automation systems for the new line.
Marienhütte’s new Spooler line will start operation in early 2008.
