Danieli to Supply Superflexible SBQ Mill for CSH
Apr. 1, 2006 April 2006 — Compañia Siderurgica Huachipato SA (CSH), Chile, recently contracted Danieli to construct and install a new superflexible bar mill, on a turnkey supply basis.
The new state-of-the-art rolling mill will have a 550,000 tonnes/year capacity of 25.4- to 101.6-mm diameter round bars for grinding balls production and 8- to 50-mm diameter rebars, at rates of up to 120 tonnes/hour. The new mill will also help CSH to achieve high productivity for the smaller size rebars, thanks to the multi-strand slit-rolling process, with four available strands for diameters of 8 and 10 mm.
The new 18-stand mill and will be entirely made up of SHS housingless stands arranged in continuous with quick-changing facilities. On-line quenching and self-tempering of rebars will be made possible thanks to a multi-strand QTB line before the cooling bed. The mill will be fed by a 120 tonne/hour walking beam reheat furnace.
Danieli’s turnkey supply includes the auxiliary equipment and systems such as roll turning shop, EOT cranes, all buildings, civil works as well as the erection for the whole plant. Danieli Automation will supply the electricals and automation system.
The new plant will provide CSH with an increased production capacity, integration of the latest technology and know-how in long products production, and consolidation of its market leadership. Startup of the new mill is scheduled for September 2007.
CSH and Danieli initiated their history of collaboration in the early 1990s with the major upgrade of CSH's existing Talcahuano bar mill and completion of a new high-speed wire rod line, which has been in operation since then.
