April 4, 2006 — Danieli recently completed its upgrade of the Republic steelmaking facilities in Canton, Ohio, with startup of the upgraded 200-ton EAF and new 200-ton Danieli Ladle Furnace.

For Republic’s existing EAF, Danieli conducted a major modification including a new upper shell with water-cooled panels, Hi Jet units for oxygen and carbon injection, and Hi-Reg Plus regulation system for increased productivity and reduced energy consumption.

Expansion of the Canton steelmaking facilities also included a new 5-strand Danieli FastCast special steel bloom caster, which was successfully started up at the end of January 2006. Danieli also supplied a new single-tank VD station, which processed its first heats at the beginning of February.
