EPA Orders Tonawanda Coke to Comply with Clean Water Act
Aug. 27, 2010 - The U.S. EPA has ordered the Tonawanda Coke to comply with its Clean Water Act permit. Among other violations, Tonawanda Coke is discharging industrial wastewater containing cyanide in excess of its permit limits into the town of Tonawanda’s sanitary sewer system.

Illinois EPA Announces Loan to Clean Up Northwestern Steel and Wire Site
Aug. 18, 2010 - Illinois EPA Director Doug Scott and other state and local officials have announced the approval of a $1 million Illinois Brownfields Revolving Loan Fund award to the City of Sterling to mitigate asbestos contamination at the former Northwestern Steel and Wire Plant 1 site and to ready it for redevelopment.

State Specifies Air Quality Upgrades for Evraz Claymont Steel
Aug. 11, 2010 - Delaware’s Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control has signed a Consent Decree with Evraz Inc. North America regarding air quality control technologies at Evraz Claymont Steel.

NLMK Launches New Environmental Project at Sintering Operations
Jul. 29, 2010 - Novolipetsk Steel is revamping the central dust collecting system for sintering machines No.3 and No.4, which it claims will cut total atmospheric dust emissions at the Lipetsk site by 28%.

Posco Launches Second Carbon-Neutral Program
Jul. 13, 2010 - Posco recently launched the second “carbon-neutral program” at Seoul’s Posco Center as part of the steelmaker’s emissions reduction project. The contest is aimed at spreading social consciousness about climate change and practicing reductions of greenhouse gas emissions.

Lakeside Steel Signs Contract with Bennett Environmental for PCB Remediation
Jul. 9, 2010 - Lakeside Steel has agreed to terms with Bennett Environmental to remove the PCB material currently stored on Lakeside's property in Welland. The project is expected to be completed by December 2010.

Jun. 11, 2010 - Novolipetsk Steel has won a National Environmental Award for “Innovative Eco-Efficient Industrial Technologies,” being awarded a special figurine and diploma for the successful implementation of its “Industrial Water Supply System Upgrade” project.
