Environment and Sustainability Timken Debuts Global Citizenship Report on Earth Day

In celebration of Earth Day 2009, The Timken Co. is debuting a global citizen report that details how the company earns the trust of its stakeholders, marking a new milestone in the company’s long tradition of active citizenship.
 
The report, which the company published online on Earth Day (April 22), reflects Timken's strategies and goals. The report also highlights a number of company achievements during 2008, including:
 
·         Recycled 1.7 million tons of scrap metal (the equivalent of 1.35 million automobiles)
·         Produced a range of "green" products, including fuel-efficient bearings, which have the potential to lower U.S. oil consumption by 14 million barrels a year
·         Recycled 21,000 tons of electric furnace dust
·         Increased capacity and visibility of energy products, including new wind power capacity
·         100% sign-off on ethics policy by 8,500 global salaried associates
·         Significant reduction in lost-time accidents over the past five years
·         Encouraged associate wellness through Active For Life  program (2000 associates at 18 locations actively participated)
·         Supported local communities through volunteer activities and global corporate giving to nonprofit organizations.
