Gallatin Steel Employees Support Hurricane Victims
Sep. 27, 2005 Employees of Gallatin Steel are doing their part to help the victims of Hurricane Katrina.

In addition to helping displaced residents of the Gulf Coast, Gallatin Steel employees also came through for the hundreds of pets that were rescued.
Volunteers loaded a truck with 70 collapsible cages, 130 large shade tarps and pallets of food, bleach and bowls, and sent it to the SPCA in Mobile, Ala. The animals were relocated to Mobile from flooded areas in Alabama, Mississippi and New Orleans.
“Thanks to the generosity of people like those at Gallatin Steel, our volunteers and veterinarians will be able to treat and care for dogs and cats who were rescued from the flood waters,” said Jeannie Cooley of the Mobile, Alabama SPCA. “Hopefully, many of those animals will be able to be reunited with their owners.”

This week, Gallatin Steel presented a donation totaling $77,800 to the American Red Cross. Part of the money for the donation had been raised with the sale of scrap metal collected at a company-sponsored community scrap metal collection day. Gallatin Steel and its employees supplemented the scrap metal proceeds with additional cash contributions.
“As with everyone in America, our heart goes out to all the people affected by Katrina,” said Gallatin Steel President Don Daily. “I’m proud of our employees for doing what they can to help.”
Earlier this month, Gallatin Steel also donated the fuel to transport a tractor-trailer load of food, water and medical supplies to New Orleans. The food and supplies had been collected by Wal-Mart employees in Carrollton.
Located in Ghent, Ky., Gallatin Steel is a flat-rolled carbon steel producer. Situated on the banks of the Ohio River approximately one hour from Louisville, Ky., and Cincinnati, Ohio, the company employs approximately 400 people.
