George Kelk Corp., Toronto, Canada, has received an order from Ilva Laminati Piani SpA, Italy, to supply an Accuband strip width gage on their hot strip mill. Kelk’s gage will replace equipment previously supplied by another manufacturer.

The Accuband strip width gage provides fast, accurate and reliable width measurement in the harshest of the environments. Advanced triangulation techniques and sophisticated edge detection algorithms help to ensure optimum performance despite steam, scale, water spray, and strip hop or tilt.

Using only the material's radiant energy, Accuplan scans the mill table from a strategic overhead position to measure the complete plan-view shape of hot slabs or plates between rolling passes. Unique scanning and edge detection techniques enable Accuplan to measure slabs and plates at rolling temperatures as low as 300°C, with accuracy better than ±2 millimeters.
