Industry Suppliers / Process Technology International PTI Commissions JetBOx Technology Systems

Jan. 1, 2006

Jan. 2006 — Process Technology International, Inc. (PTI) announced the successful start-up and commissioning of its patented JetBOx Technology at the following facilities:

  • Malayawata Steel, Malaysia — The JetBOx Technology system was installed on an 88-tonne DC EAF and commissioned in July 2005.
  • Hangzhou Steel, China — The JetBOx Technology system was installed on a 100-tonne DC EAF and commissioned in August 2005.
  • Lloyds Steel Industries Ltd., India — The JetBOx Technology system was installed on a 60-tonne AC EAF and commissioned in September 2005.
  • Ispat Industries Dolvi Plant, India — The JetBOx Technology system was installed on a 200-tonne twin shell EAF and commissioned in September 2005.

Each of the systems included multiple JetBOxes capable of introducing shrouded supersonic oxygen and injected carbon, flow control train, and integrated automation and control systems.

The JetBOx injectors operate submerged in the foamy slag layer to significantly improve the efficiency of oxygen, carbon and natural gas inputs. The submerged injectors also help to reduce energy losses to the furnace off-gas and sidewalls. Natural gas for oxygen jet shrouding can also be reduced due to the close proximity to the metal bath.

Process Technology International has been a leading supplier of combustion technology and equipment to industry since 1994, with primary service to Electric Arc Furnace meltshops. PTI combustion systems have been installed on more than 60 EAFs worldwide with over 300 burners and lances in operation. Since its inception in 1999, JetBOx Technology has been installed in more than 50 steel plants in 14 countries, with more than 200 JetBOxes now in operation.
