Feb. 8, 2012 - Cliffs Natural Resources Inc. has announced plans to dissolve its Michigan Iron Nuggets Joint Venture with Kobe Steel.

Metaldom Signs MOU to Explore Construction of DRI-HBI Facility in Trinidad and Tobago
Jan. 16, 2012 - Complejo Matalurgico Dominicano S.A. (Metaldom) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the National Gas Co. of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd., National Energy Corp. of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd., Severstal North America, and Neal & Massy Holdings Ltd. to undertake a feasibility study for the establishment of a vertically integrated iron and steel complex.
Vale Declares Force Majeure on Iron Ore Shipments
Jan. 13, 2012 - Vale announced that it is declaring force majeure (FM) on a number of its iron ore sales contracts effective from January 11, 2012 as a result of high rainfall that has been ongoing since mid-December in the Brazilian states of Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Espírito Santo.

Jan. 12, 2012 - Severstal North America has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with the National Gas Co. of Trinidad and Tobago Ltd., National Energy Corp. ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe to Modernize Blast Furnace 9 in Duisburg
Jan. 11, 2012 - ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe has shut down its Blast Furnace 9 in Duisburg-Hamborn for a period of 180 days for replacement of the refractory lining and parts of the cooling system.
SAIL, Kobe Steel to Form JV for ITmk3® Project Study
Dec. 29, 2011 - Steel Authority of India Limited and Kobe Steel, Ltd. have agreed to establish a joint venture company to carry out a detailed feasibility study for a commercial ITmk3® ironmaking plant in India. The plant, which would be constructed at SAIL's Alloy Steels Plant in Durgapur in West Bengal, would have the capacity to produce 500,000 tonnes of iron nuggets per year.
Mechel Launches Coke Battery #5 at Mechel-Coke
Dec. 22, 2011 - Mechel-Coke OOO has launched the reconstructed coke-oven battery #5, with all of its eight coke-oven batteries now operational. The battery’s annual capacity is 470,000 tonnes of coke, triple the unit’s capacity before it was halted for reconstruction.
Tata Steel Completes 100 Years of Production with A-F Blast Furnace
Dec. 19, 2011 - Tata Steel celebrated this week the completion of 100 years of production for its A-F Blast Furnace at the company’s plant in Jamshedpur. The plant is to reach an annual capacity of 10 million tonnes in a few months when it commissions its ‘I’ Blast Furnace.
Air Liquide Expands Relationship with Nucor Steel in U.S.
Dec. 14, 2011 - Air Liquide Large Industries U.S. LP has been selected to supply industrial gases for Nucor Steel’s new direct reduced iron (DRI) plant in Convent, La., and has extended its contracts to serve Nucor’s plants in Berkeley County, S.C., and Blytheville, Ark.
Kobe Steel to Make Capital Investments at Three Steelworks
Dec. 12, 2011 - Kobe Steel, Ltd. plans to make capital investments of approximately 36 billion yen to enhance the hot-metal treatment capacity at its Kakogawa Works and Kobe Works and the heat-treatment capacity for steel plate at the Kakogawa Works.
Metinvest Commissions Blast Furnace at Yenakiieve Steel
Dec. 7, 2011 - Metinvest has commissioned a modern blast furnace at its Yenakiieve Iron and Steel Works subsidiary, adding 1.2 million tonnes of capacity to the plant’s annual hot metal production.
