NLMK USA Sets New Records in Production and Quality
Feb. 7, 2012 - NLMK’s plant at NLMK Indiana has ended 2011 setting 10 new production records, including the production of a new annual tonnage record for the meltshop of 672,756 cast tons with an average tap-to-tap time of 71.31 minutes. Capacities were running at over 90%.
NLMK’s Long Steel Division Re-launches EAF No. 1
Jan. 25, 2012 - NSMMZ, NLMK’s Urals-based Long Steel Division steelmaking facility, has successfully re-launched the second electric arc furnace at its Revda steelmaking facility following repairs to a transformer.
Siemens to Supply Baku Steel with EAF, Waste Gas Cleaning Plant
Jan. 24, 2012 - Azerbaijani steel producer Baku Steel has ordered a new electric arc furnace from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies as part of an expansion project to raise its production capacity to around 1.1 million tonnes of steel per annum. The project also includes the supply of mechanical equipment for a ladle furnace and a waste gas cleaning system.
Siemens Develops Continuous EAF for Operation with DRI Feedstock
Jan. 20, 2012 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has introduced the Simetal EAF FAST DRI, developed for the use of direct reduced iron. The furnace operates as a continuous melting process.
Tenova Re Energy to Supply EAF Irecovery System for Feralpi Siderurgica
Jan. 20, 2012 - Feralpi Siderurgica has contracted Tenova Re Energy to supply an EAF iRecovery system for its Elbe Stahlwerke Feralpi GmbH facility in Riesa, Germany.
SMS Siemag Starts up X-Melt Steelworks, X-Cast Caster for Maghreb Steel
Dec. 16, 2011 - SMS Siemag successfully put into operation an X-Melt® electric steelmaking plant and an X-Cast® slab caster at Maghreb Steel in Morocco. The facilities are designed for an annual production of 1 million tonnes of steel and will supply the Steckel rolling mill and the heavy-plate mill with input stock.
Essar Steel Commissions Second Conarc Furnace at Hazira
Dec. 2, 2011 - Essar Steel has commissioned its second Conarc Furnace at its Hazira steel complex. The new furnace will expand the meltshop’s annual capacity to 5 million tonnes.
Severstal Columbus Unveils $550 Million Phase II Facility Expansion
Nov. 18, 2011 - everstal North America celebrated the Grand Opening of its $550-million Phase II expansion in Columbus, Miss. The expansion included installation of a second EAF, caster, tunnel furnace, hot-dip galvanizing line, and push-pull pickle line.
Republic Steel Plans New EAF at Lorain, Ohio Facility
Nov. 17, 2011 - Republic Steel announced plans to invest $85.2 million in an electric arc furnace and associated equipment at its steelmaking facility in Lorain, Ohio.

Nov. 11, 2011 - A. Finkl & Sons, with the help of Great Lakes Mechanical Services in Crete, Ill., and SMS Siemag, recently celebrated the first heat of steel from a new steel forging furnace on the southside of Chicago.
