Steel Producers / Sheffield Steel Don Daily Elected 2006-2007 Chairman of SMA

The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) Board of Directors announced the election of Don Daily as Chairman of the SMA for 2006 and 2007. He will succeed Keith Busse, who concludes his two-year term in February 2006.

Mr. Daily is President of Gallatin Steel, located in Ghent, Ky. Gallatin Steel operates a compact strip production facility, which started up in the second quarter of 1995. The company currently produces more than 1.4 million tons of hot band coils per year, using twin-shell DC electric arc furnaces, ladle metallurgy station, a thin-slab continuous caster and a six-stand hot finishing mill.

In addition to Mr. Daily, the following individuals were elected as members of the 2006-2007 SMA Executive Committee:

  • Jim Jonasen, President, North Star Bluescope Steel LLC — First Vice Chairman.
  • Tommy Valenta, President and CEO, Chaparral Steel — Second Vice Chairman.
  • David Sutherland, President and CEO, Ipsco Enterprises — Treasurer.
  • Keith Busse, President and CEO, Steel Dynamics, Inc. — Immediate Past Chairman.
  • Thomas J. Glaister, President and COO, Charter Manufacturing Co., Inc. — At-Large Member.
  • Regulo Salinas, Executive Vice President, Flat Products, Hylsa, SA de CV — At-Large Member.
  • Mario Longhi, President and CEO, Gerdau Ameristeel — At-Large Member.
  • Clyde P. Selig, President and COO, Commercial Metals Steel Group — At-Large Member.
  • John C. Schultz, President, Jersey Shore Steel Co. — At-Large Member.
  • D. Michael Parrish, Executive Vice President, Nucor Corp. — At-Large Member.
  • James P Nolan, President and CEO, Sheffield Steel Corp. — At-Large Member.
  • Thomas A. Danjczek — President, SMA.

The Steel Manufacturers Association (SMA) consists of 37 North American companies that operate 125 steel plants and employ approximately 40,000 people. The SMA also has five international steel company members in countries outside of North America, comprising a total membership of 42 steel companies, worldwide. The SMA is the primary trade association for scrap-based electric arc furnace (EAF) steelmakers.
