Siemens to Power New Stainless Cold Mill in Thailand
Jul. 1, 2006
The Siemens Industrial Solutions and Services (I&S) Group has received an order from Thainox Stainless pcl, Thailand, to supply the automation and drive systems for a new stainless steel cold rolling mill.
Thainox is expanding its factory in Rayong by adding a Sendzimir reversing cluster mill. The new cold rolling mill will be erected by an international consortium headed by the French company DMS, Seclin. Siemens’ scope of supply encompasses the basic automation as well as all the main and auxiliary drives.
Siemens will supply the power distribution equipment, main and auxiliary drives, and the flatness measurement and control system. The plant will be equipped on the basis of the "Siroll SCM" automation solution for reversing rolling mills. The main drives of the roll stand and the two reversing coilers will be controlled with the help of Sinamics SM150 DC link converters. Flatness will be measured by the contactless "Siflat" system, with the entry and the exit sides each fitted with a measuring system with integrated strip-edge detection. The associated flatness control system as well as user-friendly HMI equipment are also part of Siemens’ scope of supply.
Siemens is also responsible for installing and cabling all the components as well as for commissioning and customer training. The power infeed system and all the infrastructure will be provided by Thainox.
The project is being conducted in close cooperation between Siemens I&S and the Siemens regional company in Thailand, which will also provide customer support for Thainox after the project has been completed. The new cold rolling mill is scheduled to start production at the end of 2007.
With an annual production of 200,000 tonnes and a market share of over 60%, the Thainox Group is the leading manufacturer of cold rolled stainless steel in Thailand.
