Siemens to Power Tagal II’s New Hot-Dip Coating Line
Sep. 1, 2006
Sep. 2006 — Tagal II, a 50:50 joint venture of ThyssenKrupp Steel, Germany, and Angang New Steel Co., China, recently appointed Siemens to supply electrical equipment for a new hot-dip coating line that will be constructed in China.
Since December 2003, the joint venture company has been operating a hot-dip coating line in the north-Chinese port city of Dalian, with an annual capacity of 400,000 tonnes of thin steel sheet. The new coating line is intended to double the facility’s production of high-quality hot-dip coated steel sheet. The line will be required to produce product that meets the demanding surface requirements of the automotive and household appliance industries, the main customers for these products.
For the new line, Siemens will supply all the main and auxiliary drives in AC technology as well as the basic and process automation, including the technological control systems for the built-in skinpass mill and stretch leveler. The project also includes HMI equipment with user-friendly process and plant diagnostic functions as well as interfaces to the SAP system and pre-existing parts of the plant.
Automation for the new line will be based on "Siroll PL", the automation concept for strip-processing lines, and on programmable controllers of the type Simatic S7. Standardized application modules will be used for programming purposes, which will help to simplify commissioning and later maintenance work. Siemens will also install the low-voltage distribution and motor control centers (MCCs), and extend existing medium-voltage distribution to the new coating line. Siemens’ scope of services also includes project management, engineering, site management, and expediting and supervision of sub-suppliers. Siemens will also be responsible for commissioning and start-up of the new line, and will conduct performance tests in order to make sure the new line meets guaranteed key performance indicators (KPIs)
The new hot-dip coating plant will be built by a consortium consisting of the Belgium companies CMI, Seraing, and Drever International, Liège. Siemens China will manage the project in collaboration with Siemens I&S, Erlangen.
