Steel Producers / Steel Processors Dietrich Metal Framing Products Featured on Extreme Makeover Season Premiere

Sep. 28, 2007
The season premiere of the hit TV show Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, scheduled to air this Sunday, will feature metal wall and floor framing materials from Dietrich Metal Framing, a Worthington Industries company.

The project in Kalihi, Hawaii, is the show’s largest build to date. It features two 6000-square-foot structures—one that will be the Akana family’s new residence and one that will be a community center.

“We think it is important for us to be involved in special projects like this one for the Akana family,” said John P. McConnell, Chairman and CEO of Worthington Industries. “The Hawaii market, where more than 70% of houses are framed in steel, has long appreciated the benefits of using steel framing because it’s impervious to termites, doesn’t promote the growth of mold or mildew, and is non-combustible. We are proud of our involvement with the show and in providing a safer and stronger house and community center in Hawaii.”

Brookfield Homes Hawaii asked Dietrich to participate in the project. Dietrich customer Coastal Construction provided the crews to panelize and install the metal framing. Dietrich’s donation includes traditional metal wall framing, header material and TradeReady® Floor Systems which include TradeReady Joists and TradeReady Rim Joists.

Dietrich Metal Framing offers a large selection of cold-formed steel framing, including drywall and structural metal stud framing, contour flexible track framing, floor joists, roof trusses, metal lath and a variety of fire-rated assemblies. The company also offers a large selection of clips and connectors, numerous deflection systems including slotted slip track, and an extensive line of metal, vinyl and paper-faced corner beads and trims. Dietrich also offers a full line of expanded metal veneer, plaster and stucco beads and trims including expansion and control joints.

Worthington Industries is a leading diversified metal processing company with annual sales of approximately $3 billion. The Columbus, Ohio, based company is a premier North American value-added steel processor and a leader in manufactured metal products such as metal framing, metal ceiling grid systems, pressure cylinders, automotive past model service stampings and laser welded blanks. The company employs more than 8000 people and operates 67 facilities in 10 countries.

Founded in 1955, the company operates under a long-standing corporate philosophy rooted in the golden rule, with earning money for its shareholders as the first corporate goal. This philosophy, an unwavering commitment to the customer, and one of the strongest employee/employer partnerships in American industry serve as the company’s foundation.

"Extreme Makeover: Home Edition," which has won back-to-back Emmy Awards as Best Reality Program (non-competitive), will enter its 4th season on ABC. The program is produced by Endemol USA, a division of Endemol Holding. Denise Cramsey is the executive producer; and David Goldberg is the president of Endemol USA.
