Nov. 30, 2005 - United States Steel Corp.’s board of directors has elected John P. Surma Jr. chairman of the board, effective February 1, 2006.
AK Steel Announces Chairman of the Board
Oct. 21, 2005 - AK Steel announced that James L. Wainscott, 48, President and CEO, has been elected Chairman of the Board of Directors of AK Steel, effective January 1, 2006.
Ellwood National Steel Up and Running
Aug. 11, 2005 - The former National Forge meltshop, which was acquired by Ellwood Group, Inc. in 2003, is now in production as Ellwood National Steel (ENS). The facility adds some 50,000 annual tons of capacity to the forging ingot marketplace.
U. S. Steel Announces Headquarters Appointments
Aug. 10, 2005 - United States Steel Corp. announced the appointment of Frederick T. Harnack to the position of General Manager—Research, and John C. Price to the position of General Manager—Business Planning. The appointments, both of which are based in the group’s Pittsburgh headquarters, went into effect August 1.
Stelco Authorized to Access Capital Markets
Mar. 31, 2005 - Stelco Inc. has received Court authorization to access the capital markets in pursuit of new capital in the form of equity or a combination of debt and equity.
U. S. Steel Announces General Manager for Minnesota Ore Operations
Mar. 29, 2005 - United States Steel Corp. announced the appointment of Dennis G. Quirk to the position of General Manager of Minnesota Ore Operations, reporting to David H. Lohr, Vice President—Plant Operations.
Stelco Seeks Approval to Sell Interest in Camrose Pipe
Mar. 25, 2005 - Stelco Inc. has applied for a Court order approving the sale by Stelcam Holdings Inc., a wholly-owned subsidiary of Stelco, of its partnership interest in Camrose Pipe Co. to Canadian National Steel Corp. (CNSC). CNSC, an indirect subsidiary of Oregon Steel Mills Inc., is the other partner in the Camrose Pipe Partnership.
AK Steel Announces Vice President of Labor Relations
Mar. 1, 2005 - AK Steel announced that Thomas F. McKenna, 59, has joined the company as Vice President—Labor Relations. In this role, Mr. McKenna will be responsible for the company's labor relations functions and its union-management relationships.
AK Steel Announces New Senior Vice Presidents
Jan. 25, 2005 - AK Steel has named David C. Horn and John F. Kaloski Senior Vice Presidents. Mr. Horn is the corporation’s General Counsel and Secretary, and Mr. Kaloski oversees the corporation’s safety, operations, quality assurance, engineering, purchasing and supply chain management functions.
Usher's Retirement Sends Ripples through USS Top Management
Sep. 23, 2004 - United States Steel Corp. announced several changes in the company's management structure effective with the retirement of Thomas J. Usher as CEO on September 30, and the election of John P. Surma as President and CEO effective October 1. As previously announced, Usher will remain Chairman of the Board of Directors.
VAI Fuchs to Supply Three Electric Arc Furnaces
Sep. 16, 2004 - VAI Fuchs was recently awarded with three contracts for electric arc furnaces and auxiliary equipment. Total contract value approximately 33 million Euro.
Stelco to Demolish D Blast Furnace
Sep. 3, 2004 - Stelco Inc. will demolish its D Blast Furnace using explosives this Sunday, September 5, 2004. Built in the early 1950s, the approximately 250 foot high D Blast Furnace has been idle since 2000.
