YTD Specialty Steel Imports Continue to Exceed YTD 2004 Totals Oct. 11, 2005 - Total stainless steel imports grew to 399,708 tons through July 2005, a 13% increase* compared to the first seven months of 2004, according to the latest statistical data released by the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA). As imports continued to climb, U.S. stainless steel consumption dropped slightly to 1,361,595 tons, a 4% decreased compared to the comparable 2004 period.

Stainless Steel Imports Continue to Outpace 2004 Totals Aug. 31, 2005 - Total stainless steel imports climbed to 344,014 tons through the first six months of 2005 — a 15% increase compared to the same period in 2004 — according to the latest data released by the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA). As imports climbed, U.S. consumption remained steady at 1,168,282 tons, 3% below domestic consumption for the first six months of 2004.

ThyssenKrupp Stahl Approved for Blast Furnace Installation Aug. 1, 2005 - The Düsseldorf district authority granted approval to ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG for the construction of Blast Furnace No. 8. The investment is the centerpiece of a modernization program for the company’s hot metal base in Duisburg-Hamborn, which also includes the relining of nearby Blast Furnace No. 9. The 41-year-old Blast Furnace No. 4 will then be shut down and kept only as a back-up unit. The concept is to be implemented by 2008 at a total cost of €340 million.

ThyssenKrupp Stahl and Dusseldorf Government Conclude Air Pollution Control Agreement Aug. 1, 2005 - ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG and the District Government of Düsseldorf have signed an agreement to reduce particulate air pollution in the north of Duisburg. The agreement was prompted by the District Government’s requirement to draw up an action plan. This links up with the Air Pollution Control Plan of Fall 2004 and is aimed at achieving a fast reduction in particulate air pollution (PM 10).

Stainless Steel Imports Jump 26% Ahead of Year-to-Date 2004 Totals Jul. 11, 2005 - Total stainless steel imports climbed to 234,130 tons through the first four months of 2005 — a 26% increase compared to the same period in 2004 — according to the latest data released by the Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA). As imports climbed, U.S. consumption remained flat at 800,512 tons, bringing four-month import penetration to 29%, a six percentage point increase compared to the same period in 2004.

Norddeutsche Private Equity GmbH in Hamburg, Germany, has also acquired an interest in the company as a financial investor. The sale was effective September 1, 2004.
