Trade Cases Domestic Producers Respond to ITC’s Mixed Findings on Stainless Plate

Jul. 22, 2011
The Specialty Steel Industry of North America issued a statement this week in response to the U.S. ITC’s sunset review determinations concerning Stainless Steel Coiled Plate from Belgium, Korea, South Africa, Italy, and Taiwan.

The Commission made affirmative determinations with respect to antidumping cases against Belgium, Korea, South Africa, and Taiwan, as well as a countervailing duty (subsidy) case against South Africa. It made a negative determination with respect to the antidumping case against Italy.

“The ITC made affirmative decisions to continue the antidumping orders against Belgium, Korea, South Africa, and Taiwan, and the countervailing duty case against South Africa. These orders will remain in place for another five years,” said David A. Hartquist, counsel to the industry and a partner in Kelley Drye & Warren, Washington, DC.

“We were disappointed, however, that the Commission decided not to continue the order against Italy,” added Hartquist.

The US petitioners involved in the review are ATI Allegheny Ludlum and North American Stainless, along with the United Steelworkers union.
