U.S. STEEL HEADLINES

Steel Producers / U.S. Steel Terza to Lead U. S. Steel Focus on Coke Battery Reliability and Rehabilitation

Aug. 25, 2006

Aug. 25, 2006 — United States Steel Corp. announced the appointment of Raymond R. Terza to the position of Managing Director—Coke Battery Assessment, Reliability and Rehabilitation.

In this newly created position, Terza will have global responsibility for the assessment of and maintenance practices for all coke facilities, including the construction of any new facilities. He will also be responsible for managing U. S. Steel's global capital project delivery system. In this capacity, Terza will supervise the capital project supply chain, from needs evaluation through scope development, cost estimating, appropriation development, planning and project delivery.

Terza will relocate to Pittsburgh and report to John H. Goodish, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer. The new appointment is effective September 1.

"Appointing a leader of Ray's caliber and experience to focus on our world-wide coke making operations and the efficient implementation of capital projects is a testament to the importance that we place on these two critical business functions," says U.S. Steel Chairman and CEO John P. Surma. "Ours is a raw materials driven, capital intensive, customer focused business. We believe that there is no one more qualified than Ray to keep our coking operations and capital project delivery system functioning at peak efficiency."

Terza joined U. S. Steel in 1973 as a Turn Foreman in the machine shop of the company's former National-Duquesne Works. He advanced through a number of supervisory positions at National-Duquesne, Homestead Works, Irvin Works and Clairton Works before he was named Division Manager of Iron and Steel Production at Mon Valley Works in 1992. In 1996, he was promoted to Plant Manager of Coke Operations at Gary Works, and in 1997, he became Plant Manager of Primary Operations. He was promoted to General Manager of Clairton Works in 2001 and to General Manager of Mon Valley Works in 2003. In September 2004, Terza was named to his most recent position, General Manager of Gary Works, which included the integrated steelmaking operations in Gary, Ind., East Chicago Tin, in East Chicago, Ind., and the Midwest Plant, a finishing operation in Portage, Ind.

Terza holds a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Carnegie Mellon University and a master's degree in business administration from Duquesne University.
