February Steel Shipments Down 6.5% from Last Year
Apr. 30, 2007 U.S. steel mills shipped 8,350,000 net tons in February 2007, according to the latest report from the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI).
The February total represents a 6.5% decrease from the 8,937,000 net tons shipped in February 2006, and a 3.2% decrease from the 8,614,000 net tons shipped in the previous month, January 2007.
A year-to-year comparison of year-to-date shipments shows the following changes within major market classifications:
- Service centers and distributors, -9.7%
- Automotive, -4.6%
- Construction and contractors’ products, +2.2%
- Oil and gas, -8.1%
- Machinery, industrial equipment and tools, -10.1%
- Appliances, utensils and cutlery, -6.6%
- Containers, packaging and shipping materials, -7.4%
- Electrical equipment, -16.2 %
