World Danieli Caster in Operation at Usha Martin

Feb. 15, 2010
A new twin-strand, 12-m-radius Danieli FastCast™ special steel bloom conticaster operates at Usha Martin’s new meltshop in Adityapur (Jamshedpur) in the State of Jharkand. Startup took place in September 2009.

Usha Martin produces high-quality alloy and special steels for the automobile industry, the fastener industry, and for wire and wire ropes production. With the new caster in operation, the Adityapur works will increase production from 350,000 tonnes per year to more than 850,000 tonnes per year.

The machine is designed to produce up to 500,000 tonnes per year of 150 x 150-mm to 300 x 360-mm special steel blooms in spring, bearing, cold heading quality (CHQ), and alloyed steel grades. The machine is designed for future installation of a soft reduction system, which will make it possible to produce ball bearing steels and super clean steels, such as SAE 9254.

Danieli Automation has supplied the advanced Level 1 and 2 automation and process control system.
