Baosteel's TMCP Ship Plate Enters Ship Building Market
Mar. 8, 2010 Baosteel Co., Ltd. recently supplied TMCP (thermo mechanical control process) ship plate in batches to STX Heavy Industries Co., Ltd. and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co., Ltd. of Korea.
Baosteel says this confirms that its 4.2-m heavy plate mill possesses the batch production capacity for TMCP ship plate.
TMCP is the most state-of-the-art process in current production of ship plate, according to Baosteel. It can replace the conventional heat treatment process, the company notes, while lowering the alloy content and production cost and ensuring product quality—thus increasing the customer's application efficiency.
The Chinese steelmaker claims that the majority of TMCP ship-plate market share is currently occupied by Japanese and Korean steelmakers.
