Outokumpu Stainless Steel Used to Construct Spillway Control System
Aug. 27, 2010 Hydroplus has selected Outokumpu’s lean duplex LDX 2101® stainless steel in the upgrade of the La Para dam in Adelaide, Australia, with Fusegates®, the company’s proprietary technology to increase reservoir storage capacity via a non-mechanical structure that sits atop the spillway of a dam.
The new system is designed to meet demanding requirements; the customer, SA Water, targets 100-year design life and virtually no maintenance. Hydroplus plans to reduce construction time on site and to deliver a carbon neutral project.
The benefits from using duplex LDX 2101, according to Outokumpu, are close to double the yield strength compared to the austenitic grade and a significant cost advantage.
